Welcome

Welcome to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Website. We are located in Plaquemine, Louisiana. St. John the Evangelist is often referred to as the “Cathedral on the Bayou.”  St. John the Evangelist was established in 1850 and is now home to 1800 families in the Plaquemine area.  See our church bulletin for the latest information.

Join us for daily Mass as well as Sunday Mass. The schedule for both are available in the left column of the home page. Many ministries are thriving in our church to serve the community of faith and those in need around us. We are grateful for Rev. Greg Daigle, Deacon Alfred Ricard, the church staff and the many volunteer laity that give so generously of their time, talents and tithes.

Please refer to the different areas on our website to learn more about St. John the Evangelist but more importantly, ask one of St. John’s parishioners and they will be glad to help. You may also call the church office at 225-687-2402.

If you wish to become a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic church parish, please call the Church Office at 225-687-2402.

Becoming Catholic signs

BECOMING OR BEING CATHOLIC - an invitation to "Come and See"

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a faith journey open to all unbaptized or baptized Christians who wish to explore more about the Catholic faith and the possibility of becoming Catholic.  Current Catholics who may be looking for a refresher about their faith may also attend the Inquiry classes in the Fall of 2024.

A "Come and See" session with Fr. Greg Daigle will be held on Tuesday evening, August 20, from 6:30-7:30pm in the Parish Hall.  Please call the church office at 687-2402 to register as well as encourage others to call who may be inquiring about the Catholic faith.

OCIA inquiry classes about our Catholic faith continue every Sunday from 9:30am-10:45am in the church office conference room starting on Sunday, September 8, 2024, through December 8, 2024.  After the Christmas Season, OCIA catechumenate classes will resume until Easter Vigil Mass with some of the classes being held after 4:00pm Mass on Saturday for topics like a tour of the church, church history and Holy Orders by outside speakers.

Schedule of topics will be included in upcoming bulletins.  For more information, please call  687-2402.
